MAY DAY FILM SCREENING: Brighton SolFed and the Cowley Club will be celebrating International Workers’ Day (1st May) with a special screening of a documentary about the man who gave the club its name.

Film Screening: Who was Harry Cowley?

Who Was Harry Cowley (1984, 1h 03m) is a fascinating example of community filmmaking about a Brighton local who spent his whole life agitating for the working class, through two world wars and a Depression until his death in 1971. Not tied to any political party or organisation, Harry’s story is an inspiring example of lifelong grassroots direct action and a vital piece of Brighton’s radical history.

Members and guests are welcome from 19:30 for a 20:00 start – just ring the doorbell to be let in. Entry is completely free, but feel free to buy drinks from the bar or make a donation to the club (cash only). Members of SolFed and the Cowley Club will also give a talk about what each group does and what you can do to get involved!

With thanks to Screen Archive South East for granting permission to show the film!
