M. Woodroe is a moody alternative band who has quickly shot out of the local DIY scene in Brighton to gain a reputation as one of the city’s exciting emerging acts. Led by intricate political and provocative lyrics and followed by a bed of grungy, angular guitar noise, the 4-piece have been compared to PJ Harvey, Porridge Radio, and Sonic Youth. M. Woodroe’s image, lyrics and sound are boundary-pushing contemplations of gender, sexuality and desire that are difficult to pin down to genre archetypes.
GIVE UP Originally intended to be an acoustic solo project for Ashwin Bhandari recording music with just an acoustic guitar and the iPhone recorder app-over time they moved away from blunt, confessional acoustic songs by recruiting their best friends Matt Johnston on drums, Lucy Roth on bass and Jarred Perez on lead guitar to make indie punk. Their debut EP as a four piece Laugh At Myself is an accumulation of previous ideas together in order to be listened to the way they were intended.
GOBSMACKED is an ever-evolving solo project created by artist, producer, and manager Justin McMillan. GOBSMACKED’s sound blends post-punk and rock influences, infused with cutting-edge music technology and a DIY ethos, creating an exciting fusion of gritty, experimental energy.
The event is free entry but with an optional donation of £4 going to B&H resident Harry Clapham’s fundraiser - who, weeks before his 14th birthday last year suffered a serious spinal injury causing paralysis from the neck down, is raising money for specialist equipment and support for his rehabilitation. Harry's crowdfunder can be found here.
